Combining different furniture pieces may seem a little daunting. You may be inclined to just buy the matching furniture set and “play it safe.” While that may seem like the safe choice that takes the least amount of thought, I strongly encourage you to take a different route. Find different pieces you love, and put them together with intention. Mixing different sofas, chairs, and tables can add so much more visual interest and make your space look designed.
One furniture element in your living room you may be considering purchasing as a matching pair are side tables. Side tables are going to provide some of the most function in your space, so you want to be intentional about your choices. I’ll share some tips for mixing and matching different tables and give you some tips while you’re deciding on tables for your space.
- Choose two different colors. While not necessary, choosing 2 different colors can help add the visual interest you may need in your space. Side tables come in various colors, you will have endless options.
2. Choose different shapes. Mix and match round, square and free form for an easy way to make your design seem intentional and custom.
3. Pair different materials. Side tables come in several different materials including: wood, cement, metal, and stone. Varying textures in every part of home design is always more visually interesting. I think this is one of the easiest tips because almost all materials can be paired together.
One of the reasons I love mixing furniture pieces is because I am quite possibly the most indecisive person ever. Ha! While I will still dwell on my decisions while mixing and matching, I love that I can choose 2 or 3 of my favorites and not have to just pick one. I’m hopeful that these tips and combos have inspired you to branch out.
